What can i do to fix my windows movie maker since it keeps glitching?

i've been trying to make videos for youtube on windows movie maker. and if i just do a little thing the whole program freezes and quits responding. i can't work with it if it keeps doing this. what should i do to make it stop doing this? or what free but still good program should i use instead of wmm? please help! thanks :D
