What is a nice way for a business to introduce itself to your business?

There is so much crummy marketing spam out there in the world...be it email or television advertisements or radio ads, etc., etc. If you are a business owner, what is a good way that you would like to find out about a company in your area that can help your company? Fliers? Letters? Newpaper ads? And depending upon the advertising media, what sort of messages appeals to you the most? I am referring here to the tone of the message, the level of detail, etc., etc. There's a lot of hype that I would rather not engage in...
