Why are disabled people expected to be heroes?

So many times I've been told I'm some sort of hero for getting up and going grocery shopping. I've seen so many disabled people being all but worshiped simply for living. People with Downs syndrome are stereotyped as being uncaring and overly friendly, without true emotions. People in wheelchairs are viewed as heroes simply for living their lives. And it's umed that I want to be some sort of hero. It's dehumanizing and patronizing.
