What's the best way to clean gold fashion jewellery?

I was given a gold necklace (not real gold) for Christmas and have only worn it twice and now one part of it is tarnished. I know it was probably only cheap but it is really pretty and I would like to continue to wear it every now and then. Is there I way I can get this tarnish off without ruining the necklace?
