Why does the south have so many more black people than other regions in the USA?

The South can't be all that bad if they continue to live there. I have lived in the South(Georgia) and it's not near as bad as some people make it out to be. As a matter of fact the blacks and whites I knew Georgia got along a lot better than the ones I have known in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
